Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

THE FOOD HIVE
Roasted Pumpkin Seeds
Scoop the seeds out of the pumpkin and rinse them well. Blot the seeds dry with
a paper towel, then toss them with a tablespoon of vegetable oil for each cup of seeds,
and salt to taste. Spread the seeds on a cookie sheet and bake at 375 degrees until
golden brown, about 10 to 15 minutes. Let the seeds cool before serving.
THE ACTIVITY HIVE
"Pumpkin Prayer"
{cut off top of pumpkin}
Lord, open my mind so I can learn new things about you.
{remove innards}
Remove the things in my life that don’t please you.
Forgive the wrong things I do and help me to forgive others.
{cut open eyes}
Open my eyes to see the beauty you’ve made in the world around me.
{cut out nose}
I’m sorry for the times I’ve turned my nose at the good food you provide.
{cut out mouth}
Let everything I say please You.
{light the candle}
Lord, help me show your light to others through the things I do. Amen.
The Pumpkin
As you know Halloween is coming soon and you are going to start seeing a lot
of Jack o’ Lanterns around. Have you ever made a Jack o’ Lantern before? The
first thing you do is cut a hole in the top and clean out the inside. Then you scoop out
all the seeds and yucky stuff.
The next thing you do is carve a face. You cut out the eyes, the nose, and the mouth, then you put a candle in it and stick it in your window or on your porch for all the world to see.
I was thinking that this is a pretty good picture of what happens when we invite Jesus
into our heart. When we become a Christian, Jesus picks us up and cleanses our life
from sin. He removes all the yucky thoughts and the seeds of doubt, hate, and selfishness
that we have inside. Then he puts a smile on our face and puts is light inside to shine for
all the world to see.
I don’t know what you think of when you see a Jack o’ Lantern, but I hope that this
Halloween you will think of Jesus. Think about how He came to take away the sins
of the world and put his light in our hearts to shine for Him.
